San Jose CyberRays News Release
SAN JOSE (Oct. 28, 2002) â San Jose CyberRays goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene has replaced Siri Mullinix of the Washington Freedom on the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup.
Beene, who was the United State's starter for most of 2001 and earlier this year, was summoned by U.S. coach April Heinrichs late Friday night because Mullinix sprained her left thumb during training camp for the Gold Cup, which is the North American qualifying tournament for next fall's Women's World Cup in China. She becomes the second CyberRays player on the U.S. Gold Cup roster along with defender Brandi Chastain.
The United States defeated Mexico 3-0 Sunday in the Rose Bowl with Briana Scurry of the Atlanta Beat in goal to open group play in the Gold Cup. The Americans must finish first or second in the tournament to win the right to defend the World Cup title they won in 1999.
