SAN JOSE (May 22, 2003) – CyberRays defender Dianne Alagich will join other local sports celebrities in San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales' Progress to Excellence Awards caravan Friday morning.

The Progress to Excellence Awards honor the five San Jose schools that showed the greatest combined increase in their Academic Performance Index (API) scores over the last two years (2000-02). The API is mandated by the 1999 California Public Schools Accountability Act to measure progress on education reform efforts. All five winners were elementary schools.

Riding in the Hyundai Santa Fe CyberMobile, Alagich will ride in the caravan behind the mayor's car to Painter Elementary (8:30 a.m.), Linda Vista Elementary (8:55 a.m.), San Antonio Elementary (9:25 a.m.), Almaden Elementary (10:05 a.m.) and Hester Elementary (10:40 a.m.).

Also participating in the mayor's caravan will be representatives from the San Jose Earthquakes, San Jose Sharks and the city's fire and police departments.
