San Jose CyberRays News Release
SAN JOSE (Dec. 20, 2002) â The San Jose CyberRays and AAA of Northern California today are announcing a one-year partnership.
Under the agreement, the CyberRays, in cooperation with AAA, will produce a series of creative, community outreach programs to promote reading and traffic safety among school children.
The agreement will create a seating section at all CyberRays' home games called Otto's Garage (after Otto the Auto, AAA's child safety mascot) for which AAA will donate tickets to local school children. CyberRays players will participate in a monthly program in which they will visit Bay Area schools to encourage reading and promote child traffic safety called Safety and Reading Are Cool. And the CyberRays will designate a 2003 home game to be promoted as Traffic Safety Day.
``These are innovative programs that the CyberRays and AAA are excited about pursuing together,'' said Marlene Bjornsrud, CyberRays general manager. ``This is an opportunity for two organizations with shared values to enhance each other's efforts in education programs and role modeling for children.''
Established 100 years ago, AAA offers a wide array of automotive, travel, insurance and traffic safety programs. AAA of Northern California serves more than four million members and is the second-largest affiliate of the national AAA organization.
``We're very pleased to help bring AAA's message about the importance of traffic safety to fans of the San Jose CyberRays,'' said AAA Traffic Safety Senior Manager Merry Banks. ``Keeping children safe is a top priority for AAA.''
The CyberRays are one of eight teams in the WUSA, the world's only fully professional women's soccer league, which will open its third season April 5, 2003.
