Independence Week is no better celebrated than spending some quality nights enjoying America's own pastime at Fabacher Field. The Cane Cutters hosted the Strykers in the conclusion of a series pair on Wednesday night. Fans were greeted by a live performance from the band Roaming Signals and went home satisfied with a 12-10 win and series sweep of the Woodlands.
The Strykers got off to a fast start as they plated two runs in the top of the first, but the Cane Cutters quickly answered in the second bringing 3 runs across on a few errors committed by the Strykers. The Acadiana bats began to wake up in the third with RBI singles from outfielder Blake Brom and second baseman Nick Dawson.
Then in the 4th inning, the Independence Day fireworks came early as Logan Taylor blasted a two run shot to left center for his first homerun of the season, giving Acadiana a 7-2 advantage. The Strykers responded the next inning adding four runs to close the gap to a single run, until the Cutters were able to tack on another as Strykers' pitcher Greg Jackusik walked in a runner.
The struggles continued for Woodland pitchers' in the 7th where four Cane Cutters were given free bags. Chance Vincent helped the cause bringing in one run on his sac fly to right field, before Nathan Pugh came through with a little insurance with a two RBI single, bringing his total to four on his young two game Cane Cutter career. The Strykers made the game interesting in the top 9th scoring two more but Cutters' Merick Ardoin closed the door to give them the 12-10 victory and the series sweep.
The team will now head to Victoria for a two-game series with the Generals before visiting these same Texas Marshals in McKinney. The Texas Collegiate League will then take a breather at the halfway mark to celebrate this season's best with the TCL All-Star Game at Driller Park in Kilgore on Tuesday July 9. The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field a week from Thursday on July 11 with another Thirsty Thursday. Then, Friday July 12 is Hollywood Night hosted by the Hampton Inn & Suites Lafayette.
