Current/Former Rampage Named Among AFL's Greatest Players
January 18, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
The Arena Football League today released its list of the top 20 players in the league's history, as chosen by the 20th Season Historical Committee. Additionally, they noted 30 other players who were not in the top 20 but received votes. Ten individuals with connections to the Rampage were honored with either a place on the list or consideration.
Gary Mullen, a 1999 Rampage assistant coach, was #17 on the list while defensive specialist Johnnie Harris was the only active Grand Rapids player to be considered and was included in the additional 30. Eight other former Rampage players were also included in the additional 30: FB/LB Les Barley, kicker Mike Black, WR/LB Gary Compton, DS Cecil Doggette, QB Clint Dolezel, OS Fred Gayles and OS Chris Jackson.
Harris could not be reached for comment due to the Rampage traveling back from San Jose, where they practiced and scrimmaged against the San Jose SaberCats. Comments from Harris and a complete recap of the scrimmage will be available tomorrow after the team returns.
