Cunningham Awarded af2 Cutters "Catch Of The Week"

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning, in conjunction with the arenafootball2 league, announced Lightning receiver Clarence Cunningham has been awarded af2 Cutters "Catch of the Week" honors for Week 8 of the 2008 af2 season.

Cunningham was awarded the Cutters "Catch of the Week" honor for the first time of his career and is the first player to win the weekly award in Lightning history.

Cunningham's catch was a leaping, 15-yard touchdown stab in the fourth quarter of the Lightning's 40-31 home victory against Amarillo last Saturday. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver snatched the pass from QB Chad Elliott over his left shoulder before crashing into the back wall of the end zone. Cunningham, who also caught a first-quarter touchdown, finished with a team-high eight receptions for 79 yards. He began the year with the AFL's Los Angeles Avengers.

Cunningham, 25, has appeared in two games this year for the Lightning, registering 10 catches, 98 yards and two touchdown receptions.

The San Jose State University (NCAA) product spent the 2008 Arena Football League training camp period with the Los Angeles Avengers, and was second on the Lightning last year with 17 touchdown receptions and 75.1 yards per game, totaling 901 receiving yards in just 12 games. Additionally, Cunningham led the af2 with 19.2 yards per catch.

The Lightning return to play at home with a Week 9 matchup against the Tri-Cities Fever, beginning at 7:00 p.m. from Stockton Arena on Saturday, May 24.
