DENVER - The Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League has signed free agent quarterback Matt Lytle, a veteran of two seasons in the National Football League.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Lytle appeared in three games for the Carolina Panthers in the 2001 NFL season, starting one game. He completed 17-of-30 passes for 133 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He appeared in two games in the 2000 NFL season, which he began with the Seattle Seahawks and finished with Carolina, but did not throw a pass.
Lytle, a standout at the University of Pittsburgh, also played in NFL Europe in the 2000 season, and finished the season with the league champion Rhein Fire.
Lytle, 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, was a late cut by the NFL's Baltimore Ravens this season.
"Matt is an excellent quarterback and a guy with several years of NFL experience," Crush head coach Mike Dailey said. "We're very excited about getting him and look forward to working with him."
With Lytle's signing the Crush has four experienced quarterbacks on its roster. He joins John Dutton, who started 12 games for the Crush last season; Jay McDonagh, who started for the AFL's Las Vegas Gladiators last season; and Jose Davis, who started three games for the AFL's Indiana Firebirds.
Lytle's is the 12th free agent player to agree to terms with the Crush since the AFL's free agent signing period began on Oct. 15. Previously announced were: quarterbacks Davis and McDonagh, fullback-linebacker Rich Young, two-way linemen Hugh Hunter and Pat Downey, defensive specialist Rashad Floyd, wide receivers Darcey Levy, Robert Redd, Willis Marshall and Margin Hooks and kicker Anthony Brenner.
