November 18, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -The Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League signed two players for the upcoming 2004 season - AFL veteran Anthony Hicks (OL/DL-FB/LB) and AFL rookie Curtis Jeter (OL/DL-FB/LB). Both players will compete and play at the OL/DL and the FB/LB positions.
Hicks, a 6'3" 250 lb. fullback, is a six-year veteran of the AFL and comes to Detroit after spending the 2003 season with the Buffalo Destroyers. A former linebacker at Middle Tennessee State, Hicks brings a strong pass rush ability to the Fury, and his size allows him to line up on the defensive line. He has also been a force offensively as well, rushing for 191 yards and 18 touchdowns on 86 carries in his AFL career.
Jeter will make his AFL debut with the Fury in 2004 after spending the last three seasons with the Tennessee Valley Vipers of arenafootball2. At 5'10" 290 lbs, Jeter is smaller than most linemen but brings a strong pass rush up the middle as either a defensive lineman or linebacker. Jeter is a natural defensive player, having lined up at nose guard for three years at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
"Both Hicks and Jeter have the ability to be what we call 'swing players' in this league," said Fury Head Coach Tom Luginbill. "We think they give us a lot of versatility with their abilities to play both OL/DL and FB/LB. This gives us more depth at both positions going into training camp. Hicks is a proven veteran, and Jeter has played very well during his time in af2, earning all league honors each year."
The Fury will return for their fourth season of Arena Football League action at The Palace of Auburn Hills in February 2004. Season tickets for the Fury can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100, and additional information can be found at www.detroitfury.com.
