Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew President/General Manager Jim Smith announced today plans for the second annual Ultimate Soccer Raffle Program.
The Ultimate Soccer Raffle was successfully launched by The Crew in the spring of 2002 as an innovative way to provide youth soccer leagues with the tools necessary to raise significant funds to offset the growing costs of their sport.
"The Columbus Crew is committed to giving back to the sport of soccer and to creating opportunities for growth for young players," said Smith. "Our mission is to help build and strengthen the game at the grassroots level, and to share our resources with our soccer community. This program has been developed to achieve these objectives."
The program provides the memberships of participating organizations the tools to sell raffle tickets for a statewide drawing, which will take place in May 2003 and include 100 tremendous prizes. Last season, over 20 soccer leagues in the state of Ohio were able to raise significant funds for improving their organizations. This year our goal is to increase that number to 50.
The raffle is unique for those who purchase the tickets because, in addition to benefiting each Association and having the chance to win great soccer prizes, each raffle ticket sold has value - it is redeemable for a Crew regular season ticket in 2003. This is the only Raffle that we know of in which each raffle ticket has a value whether it wins a prize or not. The ticket stub is simply used like cash to purchase the best available seats for any 2003 Columbus Crew home game.
Every Ultimate Soccer Raffle ticket is sold for $20 and 45% ($9) of each sold ticket stays with your soccer league. There will be no cap or limitation on how many raffle tickets your league can sell.
There were 100 prizes given away through the 2002 Ultimate Soccer Raffle, including the following:
Trip for two (2) to the World Cup in Korea/Japan
Trip for two (2) to the 2002 MLS Cup
Trip for two (2) to the 2002 MLS All-Star Game
Trip for two (2) to a 2002 Crew Regular Season Away Game
Two (2) Roundtrip Airline Tickets in the continental United States
Two (2) Columbus Crew Season Ticket Packages
The program will begin as early as all materials can be printed. All ticket sales will conclude at the end of April, with all prizes being drawn in mid-May. The 2003 prizes are still being finalized.
