Crawdads Fall in NDCS Opener Against Lakewood

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads fell in Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series, 7-0, against the Lakewood BlueClaws, before 1,010 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday night. The BlueClaws take a 1-game-to-0 lead in the three-game set, which will continue with Game Two in Lakewood on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

RHP Neil Ramirez (0-1) got off to a strong start, striking out the side in the first and going 1-2-3 through the second, but Lakewood got on the board with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third. C Sebastian Valle then added a third run to the lead in the top of the fourth, before the BlueClaws tacked on four more to open a 7-0 lead in the fifth. SS Alan Schoenberger contributed a three-run homer in the fifth frame and 1B Jonathan Singleton followed with a solo shot to open the lead and account for the final score.

Lakewood starter RHP Trevor May (1-0) struck out 13 through 6.2 innings to keep the Crawdads offense in check and register the win, while Ramirez, who struck out seven in five innings, was tagged with the loss for Hickory.
