Nebraska Cranes News Release
The Nebraska Cranes of the United States Basketball League (USBL) are gearing up for another season. The Cranes play a 30 game season with 15 home games played at the Kearney Event Center. The season begins April 23 at Dodge City and concludes with a league tournament June 23-25 in Dodge City, Kansas.
The Cranes finished their inaugural season 15-17 with an appearance in the semi-finals of the league tournament in Salina, Kansas.
Walsh Named New Head Coach
The Nebraska Cranes name Brian Walsh the new Head Coach for the 2006 season. Walsh is taking over for former Cranes Head Coach Terry Layton, whose prior coaching commitments keep him in China.
Walsh joins the Cranes for their second season with over 14 years of basketball coaching experience. Walsh served as Assistant Coach and Director of Player Personnel for the Dakota Wizards of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) during the 2004-2005 season. Prior to the CBA, Walsh was the Assistant Coach and Director of Player Personnel for Baylor University. Before coaching at Baylor, Walsh served as Assistant Coach in 2000 and Head Coach in 2001 for the New Mexico Slam (IBL). He was also Director of Player Personnel both years.
Walsh on coaching the Cranes this season, "I look forward to coaching the Cranes. I am very impressed with both the organization and believe we can compete for a USBL Championship this season."
Cranes Tickets On Sale
Tickets for the 2006 Nebraska Cranes season are now on sale. Prices range from a $10 general seating ticket to $20 for a courtside seat. Tickets can be purchased online at www.nebraskacranes.com or by calling the Kearney Event Center Box Office at (308) 338-8011.
Wanted: Ball Kids and National Anthem Singers
The Nebraska Cranes are seeking volunteers for Ball Kids and National Anthem singers for the 15 home games. Ball Kids, either boys or girls, must be 10 years or older. Applications can be completed online at www.nebraskacranes.com or by picking one up at the Cranes Office. Performers for the National Anthem can be individuals or groups. All applications must be received by April 10th and can be found on the Cranes website. If you have any questions, contact the Cranes Office at (308) 698-0176.
