Cranes Announce Assistant Coach
The Nebraska Cranes have hired former All-American and NBA All-Star James Price as Assistant Coach. He has almost 20 years coaching experience at the professional and collegiate level, including recent positions as head coach in the CBA and the WBA (World Basketball Association).
"Coach Price will be very active in all aspects of our organization," Cranes Head Coach Brian Walsh said. "He brings a level of experience and maturity to the team which will be very valuable for our players."
Price earned All-America honors for leading the Louisville Cardinals to the NCAA Final Four in 1972. He went on to a seven-year career in the NBA, playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets, Buffalo Braves, and Milwaukee Bucks. He was chosen for the league's All-Star game while with the Bucks.
His past coaching positions include head coaching assignments with the Gainesville Knights of the WBA and Albany Pontiacs of the CBA. At the collegiate level he was head coach of the women's basketball team at Indiana/Purdue-Indianapolis for five years and an assistant for current Nebraska Coach Barry Collier at Butler University for three years.
Cranes Sign Shields
The Nebraska Cranes professional basketball team has signed their first player for the 2006 season. Ricky Shields is a 6 foot-4 inch guard who averaged double figure scoring all four seasons at Rutgers University. He holds the Rutgers career records for three-point shots made and attempted.
"Ricky is an explosive offensive swing man," said Cranes Coach Brian Walsh. "He possesses tremendous composure and potential."
Shields appeared in 120 games for the Scarlet Knights, averaging 11.5 points as a freshman, followed by seasons of 11.9, 15.5, and 13 points per game. His junior season he helped Rutgers reach the 2004 NIT Championship game. Following his collegiate career Shields was drafted by the Florida Flame of the NBA Development league and is currently affiliated with a pro team in Warsaw, Poland.
