Coyote Coach Plays Double Duty

Central Valley Coyotes News Release
While most arenafootball2 coaches vacated their offices at the conclusion of the 2004 season to take some well-deserved time off, there is one coach who is still submerged in tape trying to prepare for a big game.
Central Valley Coyote head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. maintains his spot on the sidelines when he takes on the role of offensive coordinator with Fresno City College after the arenafootball2 season wraps up.
Biletnikoff Jr., who loves the idea of being able to coach 12 months a year, can't fathom the idea of doing something else during the offseason.
"I am a very lucky man," he said. "I love coaching, and I couldn't imagine doing anything else during the year."
Biletnikoff Jr. completed his first tenure with Central Valley this past season. Although the team struggled early, they were able to win two of their last three to finish the season 3-13.
"It took time for us to get everyone on the same page," said Biletnikoff Jr. "By the time we gelled the season was coming to an end."
As his first arenafootball2 season as a head coach came to an end, Biletnikoff Jr. hoped to continue the success he has had in the junior collegiate ranks.
Since joining the Ram's coaching staff four seasons ago, they have had a combined record of 41-7 and are 21-5 since he has taken on the role of offensive coordinator.
With three wins under their belt this season, the Rams (3-1) are ranked fifth in the region among junior colleges.
Through serving double duties, Biletnikoff Jr. has found similarities in his situations with his indoor and outdoor teams.
"While coaching junior college you come across guys that are unprepared and trying to make it to the next level," said the coach. "In af2 you have the same type of player, ones that you have to coach and develop at the same time."
Coming into the offensive-orientated arenafootball2 league was an easy transition for the college offensive coordinator.
"In the outdoor game there takes much more preparation on offense," said Biletnikoff Jr. "The defenses are much more predictable in the indoor game."
Even though there may be more preparation offensively in his current position, the Coyote coach strongly believes that the same types of work ethics apply.
"Dedication is important at any level," he adds. "What you do Monday through Friday is more important than what you do in the game."
As usual, the Coyote coach spent his Monday through Friday in the coach's office, a place that he occupies all year long.
