Cougars Remain Winless, Fall 14-8 in Tijuana

December 19, 2010 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
California Cougars News Release

The early season schedule has not been kind to the California Cougars this year, with four of their first six games on the road. That coupled with four Cougar veterans missing tonight's road match vs. Tijuana for injury or personal reasons meant that an extremely inexperienced Cougar side was tasked with getting California's first PASL win of the season. Unfortunatley, the young Cougar team came up short, losing tonight to Tijuana 14-8. The loss drops California to 0-6 on the PASL season and 0-4 on the road.

In what is becoming a familiar pattern this season for the Cougars, California fell behind early as Tijuana jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 2nd quarter with the Cougars answering back with two goals of their own from Coach Antonio Sutton (assist by Jorge Martinez), back after missing three games with a knee injury, and Jose Martinez (Assist by Ernesto Bueno). After falling into the early hole, the Cougars were able to match Tijuana goal for goal, leading to the final 14-8 result. Overall, Antonio Sutton led the Cougars in scoring four goals, with goals added in by Jose Martinez, Juan Flores, Ernesto Bueno and an own goal by Tijuana.

The Cougars begin a four game home stand on Monday, December 27th with a 7:05pm game vs. the San Diego Sockers. That game will also mark the Cougars first ever "Winter Clothing Drive" Game. Bring an article of children's clothing and receive a dollar off the price of a goal reserve or gallery ticket per article of clothing donated, for a savings of up to $5 dollars per ticket. All donations will go to benefit the children of the Lincoln Unified School District Early Childhood Education and School Readiness Program.
