California Cougars News Release
Stockton, CA - Jan. 10, 2008 - The California Cougars, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), will honor the United States military by hosting Armed Forces night at Stockton Arena for their January 13 match against the Milwaukee Wave. The event will feature special pregame and halftime ceremonies and a field size American flag that will be extended across the playing field before the game.
The Cougars have invited all branches of the United States Armed Forces to attend the game. Discounted tickets are available for fans with a valid military identification card.
Specially designed commemorative military themed jerseys signed by the entire Cougars roster will be raffled off during and after the game.
California (7-5) hosts the first place Milwaukee Wave (10-4) for the first time this season. The Wave is in the midst of a long road trip that saw them play Monterrey Thursday night in Mexico. The Wave defeated La Raza, 22-15 for their league leading 10th win of the season. Milwaukee's Greg Howes had nine points in the game including four goals and an assist.
Select proceeds from the event will be donated by the Cougars to the Fisher House program. Fisher House is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
The National Anthem will be sung by Airman Aprielly Clay before the game.
Tickets are available by calling (209) 373-1550 or by visiting www.californiacougars.net. The Cougars minor league affiliate, the Stockton Pumas, play Klamath Falls beginning at 4:00PM. Kickoff for the Cougars is at 6:15. The Cougars game will be televised locally on SJ26 with Erik Alves calling the action.
