
Cosmos Hire John Fitzgerald as Director of Training

NEW YORK (June 6, 2014) - The New York Cosmos announced today that the club has hired John Fitzgerald as Director of Training and Development Programs. Fitzgerald's official start date will be Sept. 1, 2014.
Fitzgerald has over 28 years experience in coaching soccer, from youth to professional levels, and most recently served as Associate Head Men's Soccer Coach for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He is also the Director of Coaching Education for the Long Island Jr. Soccer League Coaching Academy and a national staff instructor for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Fitzgerald will continue to serve in all three capacities in addition to his duties with the Cosmos.
Fitzgerald is also retiring as a detective of the Nassau County Police Department. He graduated in 1986 from the NYPD Police Academy and has been with the police force for 28 years.
"I'm truly excited to be part of such an iconic team," said Fitzgerald. "The New York Cosmos have such history and tradition and we plan to strengthen the foundations for youth soccer development in the New York area."
"John has a wealth of experience coaching at various levels of soccer and also brings strong leadership traits to our organization as we look to increase the scope of our youth programs over the next few years," Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover said. "We're delighted that he'll be joining our team."
