San Angelo Saints News Release

San Angelo—The San Angelo Saints continued preparations for the 2004/2005 season today by announcing the return of Forward Scott Lega and Center Andy Doktorchik.

Scott Lega came to San Angelo in the 2003/2004 season after brief play with the Memphis Riverkings, also of the Central Hockey League. The Salmon Arm, British Columbia native began his career with the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL in 1994 posting 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points. Lega finished his junior hockey career in 1996 with the Saskatoon Blades, also in the WHL, posting 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.

The 6-foot, 210-pound forward/defenseman will return to the ice after posting a career high record offensively. Lega posted 6 goals and 4 assists for a total 10 points and 40 penalty minutes in games played for the Saints. Unfortunately, injury struck early in 2004 when Lega suffered a torn ACL in his right knee. He underwent corrective surgery in March and continues training to rebuild strength. "Scott will have a full recovery long before the season starts," said Ray Edwards, Head Coach and Assistant GM. "He is training hard to be back where he wants to be. Scott has the drive to get into even better condition this year and bring an even stronger presence to the ice."

Andy Doktorchik returns to the Saints organization as one of the best face-off opponents in the Central Hockey League. Doktorchik wrapped up the 2003/2004 season scoring 7 goals and 21 assists for 28 total points.

Doktorchik's first stint in the CHL came in 1999/2000 with the Huntsville Channel Cats where he posted 28 points in 65 games. The Delia, Alberta native spent three seasons in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) collecting 63 points in 155 games. His best pro season was 2000/2001 when he scored 19 goals and 20 assists in 56 games for the Baton Rouge Kingfish of the ECHL. Doktorchik played briefly for the Cincinnati Cyclones under Saints head coach Ray Edwards during the 2001/2002 season.

The 5'11" 200-pound center returns to San Angelo as a veteran on the Saints line up, as he has registered 290 professional games. "I'm excited to see Dok return to the line up," says Edwards. "I will look to him to add veteran leadership in the locker room, on the road and out on the ice." Edwards is not the only one excited about Andy's return. "I am very excited to come back," says Doktorchik. "Ray [Edwards] is a very good coach. We had a great record this year and hope to do just as well next year with Ray behind us."

Both Lega and Doktorchik made an impact on the ice for the Saints in 2003/2004. They added a great deal of character and leadership to the roster, and will each serve a specific role on the team for the upcoming season. "These guys are a core part of the reason we won the Division Title," said Saints President Jim Cook. "It is good to bring that kind of talent back to San Angelo."

The Saints return to the ice in October, but for some, training camp does not start soon enough. "I'm looking forward to it," said Lega. "I am ready to come back to San Angelo."
