Texas Copperheads News Release
HOUSTON- The Texas Copperheads announces today that they have been assigned Lawrence Taylor, Jr. son of National Football League Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor. However, he has his own nickname in TJ and he will attempt to make it known in a Copperheads jersey.
Taylor, which comes to the Copperheads, played his college football for the Eagles at North Carolina Central. He played indoor football last season in Florida but most recently was in camp with the AFL Las Vegas Gladiators. At that time, the Gladiators had Peter Warrick and Shawn King, both former NFL standouts on their roster which made it impossible to fit TJ under the salary cap.
Taylor spent his summers growing up in Missouri City, a Houston suburb, and has family here which made the move easy. He said, "Several af2 teams approached me, but being in Houston will allow my family and friends to see me play."
He added, "I expect my dad, LT, at some Copperheads games this year." If son is anything like his dad it could be a long season for Copperheads opponents. Taylor mentioned that his all-time game high was 22 tackles.
Head Coach Bryan Blake added, "TJ has good size and speed and I expect him to mesh and contribute to this team ASAP. This is just another example of what the af2 is all about. Don't be surprised when he signs an AFL contract next season."
