Charlotte Copperheads News Release

Today the Charlotte Copperheads announced the signing of local Charlotte favorite and University of North Carolina star Ryan Flanagan to their roster for the 2012 North American Lacrosse League (NALL) season. Additional signings are expected by the Copperheads coaching staff after this weekend's NALL Combine in Richmond, VA where 80 of the country's top professional players will tryout for the five NALL teams.

Ryan Flanagan is a 2011 graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he was a senior co-captain for the Tar Heels lacrosse team. Standing 6" 6" and weighing 220 lbs., Flanagan is an imposing defenseman and his hard work has garnered him honor and recognition in collegiate lacrosse. He is a three-time All-American and winner of the Schmeisser Memorial Cup as the nation's top defenseman in 2010. With an impressive off-field history of community service and a degree in business, Flanagan represents the community investment that the Copperheads utilize as a key component of their business model.

The 2011 NALL Combine will be held on December 10th at SportsQuest in Richmond, VA and is being hosted by US Indoor Lacrosse (USIL). The event will provide Copperheads Head Coach Tom Ryan and his staff an opportunity to assess players' skills as they develop the Copperheads 2012 roster. The combine will include fitness & agility testing, indoor lacrosse drills, scrimmage play and an invitational Pro-Am game. NALL Coaches will be in attendance to evaluate talent on the eve of the 2012 NALL Free Agent Draft.

"I am looking forward to the National Combine, there are several players I have not seen who will be there," said Tom Ryan, Head coach of the Charlotte Copperheads. " It is the last chance for players to get in front of the NALL coaches and GMs. It's a great opportunity for us to see players one last time before we select our team."

"As for US Indoor Lacrosse, we are very excited to host this event, to see the growth of Indoor Lacrosse throughout the years, and ultimately have an event to showcase the players talents is satisfying beyond words," said Graham D'Alvia, owner of USIL and the Charlotte Copperheads. "The combine serves as one of the most important and valuable tools to us. To be able to evaluate players on the turf and meet them personally is essential while forming our teams."

The Charlotte Copperheads will bring the NALL's high-pace, high-impact indoor lacrosse to the Charlotte community at Bojangles' Coliseum. The professional indoor lacrosse team's 2012 season will kick off on January 21, 2012 with a road trip to the Kentucky Stickhorses of Louisville. The Copperheads first home game at Bojangles Coliseum will be against the Hershey (PA) Haymakers on January 28, 2012. The NALL season runs until April 12th, with playoffs and the championship to follow.
