Hickman Records Rare "Sock-Trick" in Win
November 14, 2012 - Professional Lacrosse League (PLL-1)
Charlotte Copperheads News Release
For the third time in as many games in 2012, the Charlotte Copperheads were able to hold off the Reading Rockets on Friday night to stay perfect against their PLL rival and run their record to 5-1 (4-1 PLL) on the season. The Copperheads' Matt Hickman led the way offensively for the visitors by putting an astounishing seven goals past Reading goaltender, Findley Wilson. In doing so, Hickman achieved the impressive "sock-trick" by scoring six or more goals in a single game.
Unlike the most recent matchup in Charlotte on November 3, the visiting Copperheads managed to stay right with the Rockets up until halftime and entered the break tied at seven goals apiece. However, just like their last battle, the visiting Copperheads used a strong second half and outscored the home team by four goals to cruise to a 16-12 win.
"It is a pleasure to coach this team," said Copperheads' coach Tom Ryan. "We have a great group of guys and we continue to improve week to week. Matt Hickman shot lights out and his accuracy is ridiculous. Brian Welch continues to dominate loose balls. These guys were made to play box lacrosse," he added.
Copperheads Conclude Season December 1st in Reading
The Charlotte Copperheads are fresh off their 16-12 road win in Reading on Friday night, to stay undefeated against the Rockets in 2012.
The two games remaining on their home schedule for the 2012 season, November 16 and November 24, are against teams no longer playing in the PLL this season. The Copperheads were unable to reschedule those games and regrettably have released those dates. The Copperheads will play their final game of the year on December 1st when they return to Reading.
