Texas Copperheads News Release

LAREDO, TX - The Texas Copperheads knew they needed to play well to end their losing skid at the Laredo Entertainment Center versus the Lobos, but turnovers and falling behind early left the Copperheads playing catch up the entire game. This led to the Copperheads falling 66-41 on the road.

The Laredo Lobos earned their first win of the season with the win.

The Lobo's victory was led by Offensive Player of the Game Jason Johnson who completed 29 of 50 passes with seven of them going for touchdowns and rushing for one. WR Johnny Anderson caught three touchdowns and Mike McCullum had two to pace Laredo.

The Lobos took a quick 20 point lead in the first quarter and never looked back finishing with a 27-17 lead in the first half and leaving over 3,000 screaming fans with the feeling that this could be the game they win going into the half. The Lobos came back with the same fire and desire in the second half outscoring the Copperheads 39-24 in the second half to seal the victory.

"We are just not good enough right now," coach Bryan Blake said. "We do not have enough talent on this team. Losers make excuses and winners find a way to win."

Once more penalties and turnovers played a major role in the Copperheads' downfall. Texas had 10 flags for 110 yards and lost a pair of fumbles and one interception.

We have to be up for a 0-9 team and we're just not ready to play," said Copperheads receiver Obrey Minor. Lineman Troy Dickey added" We need to re-evaluate ourselves as an organization before our next game."

The Copperheads are open this week before returning home the following week versus the vastly improved Lubbock Renegades led by former Alabama Steeldogs quarterback Robert "Superman" Kent.
