Constanza Returns To Coach Albany In 2008

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Conquest announced today Head Coach Pete Costanza will return for his fifth season as the Conquest's sideline chief for the 2008 af2 season.

Costanza completed his fifth arenafootball2 season and fourth as head coach of the Albany Conquest, leading them to a 6-10 record in 2007. The New Jersey native led Albany to a 13-4 record and was a coach of the year candidate during the 2003 season. He then served as the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League for the 2004 and the beginning of the 2005 season, before returning to coach Albany on May 23, 2005.

"We are very happy to have Pete continue as our Head Coach again this season," said Albany Conquest President/General Manager S. Garen Szablewski. "He provides great energy, leadership and enthusiasm and both he and I are very excited about the upcoming season."

The New Jersey native's prior af2 head coaching experience outside of Albany was with the now-defunct Columbus Wardogs during the 2002 af2 season. He also served as offensive coordinator for the af2's Iowa Barnstormers in 2001 and as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator with the Roanoke Steam during the 2000 af2 season. He began his professional coaching career with the AFL's New Jersey Red Dogs as wide receivers coach from 1997-99.

Coach Costanza and the Conquest are holding the team's Annual Fall Open Tryouts on Sunday, December 2nd at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, NY. The Conquest will begin their 2008 season on the road at the Mahoning Valley Thunder on Saturday, March 29th at 7:05 pm. The Conquest's home opener will be on Sunday, April 13th at 4:00 pm against the Peoria Pirates at the Times Union Center.
