Consistency in Women\'s Professional Football for San Diego

February 18, 2004 - Women's Professional Football League (WPFL)
SoCal Scorpions News Release

San Diego, CA. – Four leagues in four years? That's not the plan for the So Cal Scorpions. The Scorpions enter San Diego under the original and longest operating women's professional football league, the WPFL.

Starting their second consecutive season under the same league is something that San Diego has yet to experience in women's professional football. "Team's come and go, they enter different leagues when their organization is not solid" stated Ann Bagala, one of the Scorpions 3 women owners. "We formed this team under the WPFL, and we have now been awarded ownership of San Diego". "There is no other women's professional football team here in San Diego now under a structured, football season, league".

"We have made some coaching changes like any other professional sports team, you see the Charger's do that. We have moved to a new city, the Raiders have done that. What you don't see NFL teams doing is popping up in different leagues every season. We want to establish this sport, and give San Diego a solid women's football team to support", stated Co-Owner Natalie Gorman

The Scorpions will begin open tryouts for select open slots for their 2004 roster in March.

The season opens the first week of August. For more team info, visit the Scorpions official team website at www.socalscorpions.com or call the hotline 1-866-71-STING.
