Danbury Westerners News Release

DANBURY, CT (May 11): The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of right-handed pitchers Chris Morris and Connor Landers for the 2015 season. Landers hails from Durham, Connecticut and is currently a junior at Sacred Heart University, while Morris is a native of Matawan, New Jersey and is currently a freshman pitching for the Seton Hall Pirates.

Lander is an imposing force on the mound, as the right-hander stands at 6'9" while weighing in at 260 pounds. Pitching as a junior this season, Landers has appeared in 12 games, starting five of them. In those appearances, he has yet to gain a win, but in 23.2 innings of work Landers has shown his strikeout potential, whiffing 19 batters. His 7.23 strikeouts per game is second on the Pioneers staff. The right-hander also has largely avoided giving up home runs as he has only allowed three this season. Landers also had success pitching for the Pioneers in his freshman and sophomore seasons in limited action. In his freshman year, the right-hander appeared in seven games for the Pioneers, recording his first victory on May 16th against Niagara University. As a sophomore Landers was limited to four appearances and 6.1 innings.

As a freshman pitching for the Pirates, Morris brings a wide repertoire of pitches including a fastball, changeup, and curve ball to the Westerners this season. The right-hander has seen limited action this season, as he has tossed 9.2 innings in 10 appearances for the Pirates, without factoring in a decision. Prior to arriving at Seton Hall Morris attended St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, New Jersey. As a senior leader for the team, Morris lead the Golden Griffins to a 20-7 record, a number one ranking, and the New Jersey state title.

Danbury Westerners President Paul Schaffer commented, "Pitching depth is one of the keys to success in the NECBL, and the versatility of Connor Landers and Chris Morris should help us this summer. I look forward to meeting both of these pitchers and watching them contribute to the Westerners."
