AUBURN, NY- Luke Peterson went 4-for-5 and scored three runs as the Connecticut Tigers erased a 2-run lead with a big fifth inning and toppled the Auburn Doubledays, 6-3, Wednesday night at Falcon Park.
Down 2-0, Peterson opened the fifth with a single. A Will Savage walk was followed by consecutive base hits by Luke Burch, Garrett McCain, and Jordan Pearce to tie the game at 2. A wild pitch scored Burch, and a Randel Alcantara single brought McCain in with the fourth run.
Peterson added his third straight hit in the sixth, scoring on a wild pitch to give Connecticut a 5-2 lead. In the eighth, Peterson's fourth consecutive single, a hit batter, and an error by Auburn pitcher Jared Brasher made it 6-2.
Drew Carlton picked up his fourth save in four tries despite giving up a Carter Kieboom home run in the ninth.
In addition to Petersons' big night, Pearce and Alcantara added a pair of hits apiece.
Carson Lance (1-2),who pitched two scoreless innings in relief of starter Brad Bass, picked up the win.
The teams will play the rubber match of the three-game series Thursday night in Auburn. Dane Myers will get the start for the Tigers, who look to get back to .500 with a victory. Game time is 7:05 on 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com
