Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - After picking up four of a possible six points in their last two home games, Fury FC will now quickly shift their focus towards Amway Canadian Championship for their quarter-final, first leg match against FC Edmonton, Wednesday evening at Clarke Field.
After consecutive positive results that showcased Fury's fight and determination right up to the final whistle, Ottawa will enter the opening leg feeling good about their game, according to head coach Paul Dalglish.
"We're ready and full of confidence at the moment," said Dalglish. "We had two fantastic performances, I think we truly deserved to beat Minnesota and if you look at our chances, we should have beaten Minnesota. If you finish above them in the standings, you're probably going to be in the playoffs."
"Our last two games were two pleasing performances so we're full of confidence but, Edmonton had some good results as well so they'll be going in very confident as well, so it should be a totally different scenario than the first time we played them when both teams went in a bit low on confidence as well."
Both Ottawa and Edmonton are starting to heat up at the midway point of the spring season. Ottawa collected a win and a tie in its last two games while Colin Miller's side earned seven of nine points in their last three matches, most recently sharing the points in a 1-1 draw against Indy Eleven.
Wednesday's game will be the first taste of the Amway Canadian Championship for several Fury FC players, including Canadian Men's National Team defender Marcel De Jong. The 29-year-old left-back put on a show in Ottawa's 2-2 draw against Minnesota as he scored the extra-time equalizer and was also involved in the play that lead to the first score, an own goal charged to the Loons. De Jong is looking forward to his first experience in the Canadian Championship and hopes to carry the momentum in Edmonton.
