Commissioner Mark Cohon Congratulates Larry Smith
May 26, 2010 - Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
On behalf of our Board of Governors and our teams, I want to congratulate our friend and colleague Larry Smith, Montreal Alouettes President and CEO, on today's announcement he will have bestowed upon him the Ordre national du Québec, with the title of "Chevalier du Québec."
So many of Larry's contributions to his province go hand in hand with his contributions to our league. As a player, his conduct and achievements gave future players a standard to strive towards. As Commissioner, his stewardship of the league through turbulent times paved the way for the stability we enjoy today. As a leader of the Alouettes, he has worked with a tremendous team under committed ownership to build one of our flagship franchises. And as a league governor, he has always reminded us all that our teams are only as strong as the communities in which they play, and that we all share a profound responsibility to serve and strengthen those communities.
What makes today's news especially heartening is that Larry's work, on behalf of his province and our league, continues, and we are all better for it.
