Cincinnati Commandos News Release

The Cincinnati Commandos, professional indoor football team, of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) are pleased to announce their 2011 coaching staff. Head Coach Billy Back will return at the helm coming off a 9-1 CIFL Championship season and CIFL Co-Coach of the Year honors in 2010. Back's 2010 Commandos team was one of the most dominating offensive and defensive teams in CIFL history. He led the Commandos to Cincinnati's first ever professional football championship. He has played professional indoor football for the Dayton Warbirds (NIFL), Cincinnati Marshals (NIFL), Miami Valley Silverbacks (CIFL), Mahoning Valley Thunder (af2) and Bloomington Extreme (IFL). Returning with Back to the Commandos coaching staff are Defensive Coordinator Chris Taylor and Offensive Assistant Peter Parker. Taylor returns to guide the stingiest defense in the CIFL. Under Taylor's guidance the Commandos led the CIFL in interceptions, sacks, total defense and points against.

The Commandos new additions to the coaching staff are Brian Wells, J.C. Baker, Chico Lockhart and Sean Middlebrooks. Wells joins the Commandos staff as the Assistant Head Coach, Special Teams Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. In 2010 Wells was the Head Coach for the Miami Valley Silverbacks and CIFL Co-Coach of the Year along with Billy Back. He took over a 0-10 Silverback team and led them to the playoffs with their best winning percentage in team history (est. 2005). Wells is no stranger to Cincinnati indoor football having coached with the Cincinnati Swarm (af2) and Cincinnati Marshals (NIFL).

Coach Back looks to Wells to bring the 3rd phase of the game to meet the top offense and defense. Wells' special teams units have been the top ranked unit in each year he has coached. The 2003 Swarm team led af2 with 8 kickoff returns for touchdowns and the 2006 Marshal team tied and indoor football record with 11 kick returns for touchdowns (2 of which Coach Back returned himself).

Wells brings with him the Silverbacks Defensive Coordinator, Chico Lockhart and Defensive Line Coach Sean Middlebrooks. Lockhart will coach the defensive backs and Middlebrooks will retain the same position with the Commandos.

Back also brings in another indoor vet to coach the receivers in J.C. Baker. Baker was a standout receiver at the University of Cincinnati whom went on to play in the Arena Football League with the Buffalo-Columbus Destroyers. This will be Baker's first season as an indoor coach. The Commandos look to open 2011 the season on the road against the Port Huron Predators.
