February 17, 2023 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Kansas City Comets News Release
The Kansas City Comets have signed goalkeeper Chris "Tito" Favela to a two-year contract. Per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Favela joins the Comets following his rookie campaign with the St. Louis Ambush last season where he posted a 1-2 record in three starts and five games played, recording 28 saves.
The Kansas City native returns to the MASL after featuring for the Kansas Bandits in MASL2 this season. With the Bandits, the newest M2 expansion franchise out of Dodge City, Kansas, Favela made 38 saves with a 1-2 record.
Favela described signing with the Comets as surreal. "After some time off, it is great to be back with this organization and my hometown team. I just hope I can do whatever I can to contribute to the team's success," Favela said.
Before signing with the Ambush, Favela played for Sunflower State FC under Comets assistant goalkeeper coach Kenny Mayer when they were members of MASL3. Favela expressed his great appreciation to Mayer for all he has done to help him progress over recent years.
Favela is a product of the Youth R.I.S.E. program and Alta Vista Charter School, now known as Guadalupe Centers Charter School, before playing one season at Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Favela first played under Comets head coach Leo Gibson when Favela was 14 years old for Gibson's Kick for Christ team. "Now that I get to play for him as a Comet, it is something very special," Favela said.
According to Comets goalkeeper coach Alan Mayer, Favela brings great enthusiasm and work ethic to the Comets and has already started to fill his role on the team.
"It's always great when you can develop the local talent," Mayer said. "It's a win for everybody when you can do that. He's a good guy and he works hard, so we are happy for him."
The Comets have also traded the rights of Odaine Sinclair to the Mesquite Outlaws for cash considerations.
The Comets are in action this Sunday when they visit the Florida Tropics. The Comets return home on Sunday, February 26 when they host the Milwaukee Wave.
