Comets Players Hit the Ice in Vancouver

Several future Utica Comets players are among the 61 Vancouver Canucks regulars, prospects and camp invitees taking part in Canucks training camp, which began on Tuesday, in Vancouver, B.C. There are 19 players who skated with Vancouver's AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, a season ago, are in attendance, including goaltenders Eddie Lack and Joe Cannata, defensemen Peter Andersson, Jeremie Blain, Frank Corrado, Patrick Mullen, John Negrin, Adam Polacek, Yann Suave, and Chris Tanev and forwards Darren Archibald, Ludwig Blomstrand, Alex Friesen, Alexandre Grenier, Niklas Jensen, Zack Kassian, Kellan Lain, Alexandre Mallet and Jordan Schroeder.

Also in attendance are three Comets' signees who were invited to camp; goaltender Mathieu Corbeil, defenseman Sacha Guimond and forward David Pecan, as well as several Canucks prospects who could make their Utica debut in the upcoming season, including goaltender Joacim Eriksson, defensemen Alex Biega and forwards Brandon Defazio, Benn Ferreiro, Zach Hamill, Pascal Pelletier, Mike Santorelli and Colin Stuart. One other player of note is Rome, NY native Tom Sestito, who is on a one-way contract with the Canucks. Utica's coaching staff, consisting of head coach Travis Green and assistant coaches Nolan Baumgartner and Paul Jerrard are also in attendance, assisting the Canucks coaching staff.

Vancouver's training camp began on Tuesday at Rogers Arena with on-ice player testing and will continue through Sunday with scrimmages and team practices. The Canucks' exhibition games begin on Monday, Sept. 16, when the San Jose Sharks visit Vancouver. The Canucks will have five other preseason games; Sept. 18 and 21 against Edmonton, Sept. 23 against Phoenix, Sept. 24 at the SAP Center in San Jose against the Sharks, and will conclude as the Canucks welcome head coach John Tortorella's former team, the New York Rangers, to town on Sept. 26.

The Comets will open their training camp slate with a preseason game against the Abbotsford Heat on Sept. 22 at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Center. The Comets' preseason schedule will continue on Sept. 27, with a road tilt against the Hershey Bears, followed by the sold-out preseason home game against the Adirondack Phantoms on Sept. 29 at the John F. Kennedy Arena in Rome, NY. The Comets' preseason schedule will conclude on Oct. 3, when they travel to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. contest at J.L. Grightmare Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ontario.

The AHL's newest franchise will open their inaugural regular season eight days later as they take on the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester; the first of three road games to open the season. The Comets will host the first AHL game for a Utica franchise since 1993 on Oct. 23, when they host the Albany Devils. Game time is set for 7:35pm.
