HOUSTON - Houston Comets forward Sancho Lyttle underwent successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee, which she suffered this offseason. Lyttle's recovery time is expected to be 6-8 months. She is expected to be able to play in 2006. "This is an unfortunate injury after the season she had in 2005," said Comets Head Coach and General Manager Van Chancellor. "I look forward to having her back playing with the Comets and picking up where she left off last season." Lyttle, who is finishing classes at University of Houston this offseason, ranked first among WNBA rookies in field goal percentage (.584, 59-101 FG) while averaging 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 33 games played last season. She also set the Comets rookie record for field goal percentage in a season, surpassing center Michelle Snow's rookie mark of .469 (45-96 FG) in 2002. ... Snow is having another outstanding season with Lavezzini Basket Parma in Italy, ranking fourth in scoring average (21.3) and second in rebounds per game (13.5) in EuroCup action. ... After becoming the first player in league history to win three WNBA MVP awards and earning 2005 All-WNBA First Team honors, forward Sheryl Swoopes is honing her skills with Cras Basket Taranto in Italy. Joining her this offseason on the Taranto squad is Comets teammate Tari Phillips. ... Forward Tina Thompson is currently playing with the KB Savers of the Women's Korea Basketball League (WKBL). ... Dawn Staley is in her sixth season as head coach of the Temple women's basketball program. The 2004 and 2005 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, Staley has won 108 games with the program and has her 19th ranked Owls off to a 6-1 start this year. Last season, Staley became the fastest coach in Temple women's basketball history to reach 100 wins. ... Janeth Arcain runs basketball schools through several gymnasiums she operates in Brazil. ... Coming off her best season with the Comets in 2005 where she averaged 8.2 points and 3.1 assists, Dominique Canty is again participating in the Israel League with Hapoel Tel Aviv. Canty played with Bnei Yehuda last offseason. ... Roneeka Hodges is in France this offseason playing with Calais in the French League. ... Edwige Lawson is playing with VBM-SGAU Samara in Russia. ... Comets Assistant Coach Kevin Cook again served as head coach of Everyones Internet traveling team, which is comprised of WNBA players and college graduates who compete each November on a collegiate tour against some of the top women's college programs in the nation. Cook's 2005 touring squad also included Comets guard Felicia Ragland. This year's team had wins over the University of Texas (68-60 on 11/3) and University of Houston (67-50 on 11/4).
