February 12, 2022 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Kansas City Comets News Release
The Kansas City Comets (9-1) will welcome the Chihuahua Savage (2-5-2) to Cable Dahmer Arena for the first time Saturday night for the annual Pink Game benefiting the TAKE Foundation. The Comets are coming off a bye-week while the Savage will compete on last night in St. Charles against the Ambush. Chihuahua picked up their first MASL road win with an 11-8 decision over the St. Louis.
Kansas City will strive for their eighth win in a row powered by an offense that boasts two players with 20+ point production including Leo Gibson (18G-10A) and John Sosa (8G-12A). Three players are tied for third in scoring on the squad with Lucas Sousa (11G-2A), Rian Marques (9G-4A), and Ray Lee (5G-8A) each with 13 points.
In goal, Nicolau Neto (8-1, 4.57 GAA, .737 sv%) missed the last game for the Comets with a knee injury and Lou Misner stepped in and stopped eight Sidekicks shots to pick up the 9-4 win. For the Savage, Iván Muñoz started the first four games and compiled an 0-4 record with a 6.54 GAA and .667 sv%. Berna Valdovinos has started the last five and is 2-1-2 though his 8.61 GAA and .576 sv% numbers are behind Muñoz. Time will tell if the keepers' numbers are skewed with one playing his games on the road, and one playing his on the smaller home field at Corner Sport Arena.
Jorge Rios sets the pace for Chihuahua offensively with 19 points (15G-4A). The other two Savage players with 10+ points on the season are Hugo Puentes (8G-9A) and Enrique Cañez (8G-4A).
After Saturday's game the Comets will play three of their next four games on the road including the front end of a home-and-home series with the Milwaukee Wave, and their final trip to the West Coast to battle the San Diego Sockers and Ontario Fury.
