HOUSTON – The Houston Comets announced today the signing of forward Jocelyn Penn to a free agent contract. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Jocelyn is a young, athletic player who has shown the ability to score," said Comets Head Coach and General Manager Van Chancellor. "She was a tremendous player coming out of the SEC when she was picked ninth overall in the 2003 Draft."

Penn (6-0, South Carolina ‘03) joins the Comets with career averages of 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds in 31 WNBA games with the Washington Mystics (30) and San Antonio Silver Stars (1). Drafted by the Charlotte Sting in the first round (9th overall) of the 2003 WNBA Draft, Penn joined the Mystics on June 9, 2003, after being waived by the Sting on May 21. She played in 30 games with Washington as a rookie, averaging 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds. On May 19, 2004, Penn was released by the Mystics but later signed with the Silver Stars on August 12. After missing seven games while on the injured list with right shoulder tendonitis/bursitis, Penn played in her first game with San Antonio, recording four points and one rebound in three minutes of action vs. Charlotte on September 17.

During her four-year collegiate career with the Gamecocks, Penn was one of only four South Carolina women to score 1,500-plus points (1,939), grab 500-plus rebounds (803) and make over 200 steals (359) in a career. She finished as South Carolina's all-time leader in career steals with 359, which ranks second all-time in the SEC. As a senior, Penn was named All-SEC First Team by the SEC coaches and the Associated Press. Penn was also a candidate for the Naismith College Female Player of the Year as well as earning a nomination for the Wade Trophy as National Player of the Year.
