
Comets Acquire Kedra Holland-Corn in a Trade with the Detroit Shock

HOUSTON - The Houston Comets announced today that the team has acquired guard Kedra Holland-Corn from the Detroit Shock along with Detroit's second-round pick (26th overall) in the 2004 WNBA Draft. In exchange, Houston sends to Detroit the team's first-round selection (11th overall) in the 2004 WNBA Draft and a 2004 third-round pick (32nd overall) acquired by the Comets from the Seattle Storm in a trade for Rita Williams on May 20, 2003.
"We are so excited to add a player with such outstanding ability and experience," said Head Coach and General Manager Van Chancellor on the trade for Holland-Corn. "Kedra can play two positions and has 3-point range. She will be a great addition to the Comets."
Holland-Corn (5-8, Georgia '97) has averaged 10.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 162 games with the Sacramento Monarchs and Detroit Shock. Traded from Sacramento to Detroit in exchange for Kara Lawson on April 29, 2003, Holland-Corn averaged 9.2 points and 1.9 assists off the bench in helping the Shock capture the 2003 WNBA Championship.
She spent her first four WNBA seasons with Sacramento after joining the Monarchs as a second-round pick (14th overall) in the 1999 WNBA Draft. Holland-Corn started all 128 games she played in for the Monarchs. In 2000, Holland-Corn ranked third in WNBA in 3-point field goals made with career-best 59. She set her career high in scoring with a 28-point performance vs. the Washington Mystics on June 25, 2002.
Prior to joining the WNBA, Holland-Corn averaged 10.3 points and 2.2 assists in two seasons with the San Jose Lasers of the ABL. She was selected by San Jose with the 15th overall pick in the 1997 ABL Draft. Holland-Corn joined the professional ranks from the University of Georgia, where she finished her career ranked third all-time in steals (302) and eighth in career points (1,566).
