HOUSTON â Forward Sheryl Swoopes was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame on October 18. Established by the Governor's Commission for Women in 1984, the Texas Women's Hall of Fame is a biennial awards ceremony that recognizes the achievements of the State's most accomplished women in the areas of business, health, athletics and public service. Accepting on behalf of Swoopes, who was attending the FIBA Women's World League, which takes place October 12-17 in St. Petersburg and Samara, Russia, was Comets Assistant Coach Kevin Cook. ... Forward Tina Thompson was on hand at Game One of the 2004 WNBA Finals on October 8 in Connecticut to receive her All-WNBA First Team award presented by Bud Light. A three-time First Team performer (1997, 1998, 2004), Thompson averaged a career-high 20.0 points per game in 2004. ... Comets Head Coach & General Manager Van Chancellor was named analyst for the Houston Rockets television broadcasts this season. Coach Chancellor will be teamed up on local telecasts with longtime Rockets play-by-play announcer Bill Worrell. ... Center Michelle Snow traveled to Washington, DC on September 28-29, participating in the Lupus Foundation of America's Second Annual Champion to Champion Awards Gala as well as the Sixth Annual Lupus Foundation of America Advocacy Day. Snow's mother, Rosa, passed away in 2004 from complications associated with lupus. To honor her mother's legacy, Snow hopes to increase awareness of lupus by raising money for treatment and to find a cure. ... Snow is currently playing overseas for Lavezzini Basket Parma in Italy along with guard Gordana Grubin. ... Coach Cook also serves as head coach of Everyones Internet traveling team, which is comprised of WNBA players and college graduates who compete each November on a collegiate tour against some of the top women's college programs in the nation. Highlighting this year's schedule will be games against LSU (Nov. 2), Houston (Nov. 3), Rice (Nov. 7) and Duke (Nov. 8). Cook's 2004 touring squad will include Comets guard Felicia Ragland. ... Three Comets are now playing basketball in the Israel League. Forward Octavia Blue and guard Dominique Canty are teammates on Bnei Yehuda while forward LaTonya Johnson is playing for Maccabi Ashdod.
