GREENVILLE, S.C., January 20 – The Columbus Riverdragons of the National Basketball Development League have claimed point guard Kevin Braswell from the NBDL Available Player Pool, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone. Braswell fills the spot left by the departure of Riverdragons shooting guard Ricky Minard, who bought out his contract.

Braswell, a 6-2, 190-pound point guard from Georgetown University ('02) comes to Columbus after appearing in 15 games with 10 starts for the NBDL's Florida Flame this season, prior to his release on January 11. Originally a tenth round selection in the 2004 NBDL Draft by the Flame, Braswell averaged 12.9 points, 7.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 41% from the field, 29% from three-point range, and 87% from the free throw line. The Baltimore, Md. native currently ranks among NBDL league leaders in assists (3rd, 7.0 pg), steals average (5th, 1.5 pg), and free throw percentage (6th, 86.7%).

Braswell spent the previous two seasons playing overseas in Italy, Poland, and Belgium. The 25 year-old finished his college career as the seventh all-time leading scorer in Georgetown history with 1,735 career points. Braswell also ranks as the school's all-time leader in career assists with 697 and steals with 349. He started all 128 games he appeared in with the Hoyas and was named Third Team All-Big East as a senior and earned Second Team honors as a junior. As a senior in 2002, Braswell averaged 14.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.7 steals. As a junior in 2001, he averaged 11.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 2.8 steals. As a sophomore in 2000, Braswell averaged a team-high 14.8 points, 5.3 assists, and 2.6 steals. He led team in scoring 15 times, including a career-high 40 point performance in a triple-overtime win over Virginia in the post-season NIT.

Braswell will be in uniform for the Riverdragons in their next game, tonight, as Columbus takes on the Florida Flame at the Columbus Civic Center. He will wear uniform #12.

The first-place Riverdragons (14-4) will look to end a three-game losing streak tonight versus Florida. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center. Columbus leads the season series with the Flame 3-0, including a 101-76 victory over Florida on December 26 at the Civic Center.
