Asheville Altitude News Release
The Columbus Riverdragons registered their first win of the season with a last second bucket, 87-85, defeating the Asheville Altitude Tuesday night at the Asheville Civic Center. Kevin Lyde hit the game-winning shot with less than seven seconds to go in the game to improve the Riverdragons record to 1-6 overall.
"We were flat, we had no energy," said head coach Joey Meyer. "We didn't come out to play tonight. We didn't deserve to win."
Every player on both teams posted points. Player of the game Gary Williams led Asheville with 17 points. Desmond Penigar followed with 16 and Lavor Postell and Kareem Reid each chipped in 10. Lavoris Jerry posted his first points of the season, dunking the ball for two and hitting a three point shot shortly after checking into the game.
Erron Maxey paced the Riverdragons with a game-high 22 points. Lonnie Harrell came out hot for Columbus, scoring 13 points in the first half, but did not score again in the game. Courtney James also added 13 points for the Riverdragons. Terrence Morris chipped in 10.
The loss marked Asheville's third consecutive loss at the Asheville Civic Center and dropped their overall record to 2-4.
"We have to put together back to back games of doing things well," said Gary Williams.
Asheville travels to Huntsville to face the league-leading Huntsville Flight Friday, Dec. 12 before returning home to take on the same team at the Asheville Civic Center Saturday, Dec. 13.
