Columbus Catfish News Release
Columbus, GA - Columbus dropped the third straight game of the series against the Rome Braves with a 6-1 loss Wednesday at Golden Park. Starter RHP Cory Wade (2-1) struck out 12 Rome hitters but allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings and took the loss. Rome started with two Atlanta Braves pitchers on rehabilitation assignments. LHP Chuck James pitched the first inning and was followed by RHP Lance Cormier in the second. Both pitched perfect innings.
Rome scored one run in the second inning on a single by 1B Isaiah Ka'aihue. They added a second run in the third inning on a ground out by LF Kelly Johnson. An RBI double by 3B Eric Campbell and another RBI single by Ka'aihue in the sixth inning made it 4-0. The final Braves runs scored in the ninth inning. CF Ovandy Suero drove one run with a triple and SS Derrick Arnold knocked in Suero on a sacrifice fly.
The only Catfish run scored in the bottom of the ninth inning on a LF Drew Locke single that drove in 3B Russ Mitchell. Locke finished 2-for-4.
Wade was relieved first by RHP Arismendy Castillo, who gave up one unearned run in two innings of work. RHP Francisco Felix allowed the final two runs while pitching the ninth inning. RHP Jairo Cuevas (3-3), originally planned as the Rome starter, gave up one unearned run over 6 1/3 innings to get the win.
The final game of the home stand will take place Thursday at 7:00pm. Columbus will try to avoid the sweep with RHP James McDonald (1-1, 4.78). Rome will counter with LHP Jo Jo Reyes (4-0, 3.26). For tickets or more information call (706) 571-8866 or visit www.ColumbusCatfish.com.
