Columbus Destroyers News Release

Columbus, OH– The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League will host a prospective player evaluation tryout on Monday, August 9 at the Columbus FieldHouse, the Destroyers official practice facility. The day will consist of two workout sessions, with the first scheduled from 8-10 a.m. and the second from 2-4 p.m.

Each workout is open to the media as well as the general public. General Manager/Head Coach Chris Spielman will be available immediately following each session. Fans are encouraged to come out and form their own analysis of a multitude of players who might end up in a Destroyers uniform next season.

Thirty-eight players from across the United States have been invited to participate in the workouts, including four players from Ohio State University and two Columbus natives. Among the former Buckeyes set to attend are quarterback Scott McMullen, wide receiver/defensive backs Mo Lee and Bobby Britton and fullback/linebacker Joe Cooper. Jason Morton (Independence H.S.) and Jackson Harris (Reynoldsburg H.S.) will also attend Monday's tryout.

Coach Spielman and his staff have combed the country in an attempt to discover talented players who may not have been afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities, officially beginning the process of fielding a championship team in 2005. Each player will be evaluated by the Destroyers' coaching staff and may potentially be invited back for a second tryout which will take place this fall.

The FieldHouse, newly equipped with a weight room, training room and locker room constructed specifically for the Destroyers, serves as one of the top performance-enhancing facilities in the AFL. The Destroyers are in the midst of a three-year agreement with the FieldHouse to host their training camp as well as regular season workouts through the 2006 season.

The Destroyers second season kicks off in February at Nationwide Arena. For more information on Destroyers season tickets for the 2005 season, call (614) 246-HITS or visit online at www.ColumbusDestroyers.com.
