Columbus Crush Wins Opening Game

November 24, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Columbus Life News Release

Columbus, OH. The ABA Columbus Crush won its first game in its inaugural season 116-112 over a very tough Grand Rapids Flight team. Phil McKnight led a balanced attack with 23 points while Ikey Jefferson just missed a triple double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists.

The Crush never trailed in the game and pushed the lead to 15 points midway through the third quarter. Columbus withstood a furious rally led by Flight guards Marcus Lancaster and Brandon Ball before holding on for the win.

Head coach Kelly McClure was pleased with the win. "We saw some good things out there and some things we need to work on," stated McClure. "Overall the guys responded well, especially at the end when the crowd got into it and the other team gained some momentum. It was good to see the guys maintain their composure and close it out." The win helped the Crush jump into the ABA Power Rankings. The Grand Rapids Flight are set to play a full season schedule in 2010.
