COLUMBIA, SC - After the All-Star break, the first-place Fireflies (13-8) welcome the Augusta GreenJackets (7-13), the Class-A Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, to town for a weekend series from July 22-24 that is jam-packed with fun promotions!
Friday, July 22: Fireflies vs GreenJackets: 7:05 pm
Saturday, July 23: Fireflies vs GreenJackets: 6:05 pm
Sunday, July 24: Fireflies vs GreenJackets: 5:05 pm
The GreenJackets have struggled to kick-off the second half, wearing a 7-13 record that is five games back of first place in the South Division after the first 20 games of the half. It's important to note that the Fireflies swept Augusta in the first full series of the second half, so outside of those six games, the GreenJackets are playing .500 baseball, which matches up with their 43-43 overall record this year. Some of the main players this season for Augusta have been Brandol Mezquita, who owns a .297 average and has driven in 40 RBI in 70 games this season, and Cal Conley, who has smashed 10 homers and has scored 62 runs while manning shortstop for most of the season. The pitching staff has been led by Rainery Rodriguez, who has burst onto the scene with a 1.93 ERA in his first 23.1 innings and Luis Vargas, who has wrung up 82 hitters in 71.2 innings in 17 games this season.
FREEBIE FRIDAY: We're kicking off a big weekend with a big giveaway! The first 1,000 fans through the gates Friday night will receive a free yellow henchman t-shirt. These shirts will go fast. Gates open at 6 pm and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
NIGHT UNDER THE BIG TOP: Come one! Come all! It's bound to be a fun time at Segra Park Saturday as we celebrate a Night Under the Big Top, a night unlike any other where we bring the circus to the ballpark. There'll be balloons and clowns at the game and following the game, we'll shoot a man out of a cannon on the field! If that weren't enough, we'll end the night with a dazzling fireworks show!
WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY: Sunday we're celebrating some of our favorite people. It's Women in Sports Day at Segra Park. Join the Fireflies as we'll welcome and celebrate some of the most influential local women in sports at the game. It'll start with pre-game catch on the field with the University of South Carolina Softball team. Any kid can bring a glove and have a catch with the lady Gamecocks! We'll also welcome the Spring Valley Cheer Team with a performance prior to the game and athletes from both the University of South Carolina and Benedict College. All athletes will sign autographs on the concourse during the game!
SUNDAY FUNDAY: There's always fun at Segra Park on Sundays! Come early to get autographs from Fireflies players from 4-4:15 pm on the concourse and after the game, stick around for kids run the bases! There's not a better way to close out the weekend than watching the Fireflies at Segra Park!
