JENSEN PACES OFFENSE IN 8-3 WIN: Carter Jensen led the bats with two doubles and a homer in Columbia's 8-3 win over the Augusta GreenJackets at Segra Park Tuesday night. The Fireflies (18-37) got the scoring started early Tuesday evening. After River Town placed a lead-off single into right field, Carter Jensen brought him home with a one out two-bagger off Kris Anglin (L, 3-3) that broke the scoreless tie. After Guillermo Quintana singled and Darryl Collins walked, the table was set for Omar Hernandez who singled up the gut to score a pair and put the Fireflies in front 3-0 before the end of the first frame. Shane Panzini was able to turn in another stellar start. The Royals' 2021 fourth round pick spun four frames, fanning three batters and allowing only a single run. Columbia only had to use two pitchers against the GreenJackets (27-25), as Heribert Garcia (W, 5-2) rebounded following allowing two runs and three baserunners before recording an out. He was able to get the final 15 outs of the game, including five strikeouts to earn the win.
MAKING MY WAY DOWN TOWN: Fireflies outfielder River Town has been hot since last series against Salem, notching 10 hits, including five doubles in his last six games. Since May 27, Town has a hit in nine of 10 games he's played, and is 13-42 (.310) with two walks and four RBI across those nine games. He's currently riding a six-game hitting streak, which is tied for the longest stretch for a Fireflies hitter in 2022. In those six-games, the Louisiana native is 10-24 (.417) with three RBI.
JENSEN'S CAREER NIGHT: Tuesday, catcher Carter Jensen tied a pair of career-best marks. It was his third, three-hit game and his second four-RBI game of his career. He also hit a homer for the eighth time in his professional career. Jensen finished the evening 3-5 with two doubles and that homer, marking the best game of his Fireflies career.
A HANDFUL OF DUBS: Last night, Heribert Garcia spun five innings in relief of Shane Panzini, earning his team-best fifth win of the season. Columbia's reliever has three wins in his last five relief appearances and has overtaken tonight's starter, Luinder Avila, fort the most wins on the roster this season.
FRONT LOADED BATS: Last night, the Fireflies top of the order was electric. Each of the top four hitters tallied multiple hits as the front four went 11-19 (.580) on the night with seven runs scored and four RBI. The bottom five in the order amassed a single hit in 17 tries, but were productive, driving in three RBI.
IT'S BEEN AWHILE: Last night the Fireflies snapped a couple of skids with their 8-3 win over the Augusta GreenJackets. They snapped their six-game losing streak dating back to May 29's game against Lynchburg. They also won their first home game since May 8 vs Delmarva.
WILLIS THE WAYFINDER: After a rough 2021 season, southpaw Marlin Willis has been hitting a groove with the Fireflies in 2022. He struggled a bit to open up the season, spinning an 8.53 ERA in April, but since, has kept things under control. May was the start of something new for the lefty, who punched out 19 hitters in 12.1 innings while working a 2.92 ERA in six outings. So far in June, Willis has worked a pair of outings, each lasting one frame and he has not allowed a run to score.
