Colorado Gold Kings News Release

Bakersfield, CA - Behind two goals from Jamie Cooke and 28 saves by Luciano Caravaggio, Bakersfield sent Colorado to its worst defeat of the season, 6-0, Tuesday night before a raucous crowd of 5,722 at Centennial Garden.

Colorado played poorly in the first period and Bakersfield enjoyed numerous chances, including two shots that went off the post, but had to settle for a 1-0 lead on Jason Firth's 17th of the year at 1:43. The Condors blew the game open with four goals in the second period, beginning with Jamie Cooke's unassisted tally on a breakaway just 1:39 into the frame. Jeff Goldie hammered a loose puck in front past a beleaguered Gold Kings' netminder Kirk Daubenspeck on the power play at 6:37.

Cooke's second of the night extended the lead to 4-0 at 15:44 and defenseman Patrik Aronsson took a clearing pass and converted a breakaway on the left wing to complete a disastrous period for Colorado. Bakersfield tacked on one more in the third as Paul Willett buried his 22nd of the year at 1:10. The Gold Kings have been shut out five times this season after not having been whitewashed during the entire 2000-01 campaign. Colorado held a 28-24 advantage in shots over the Condors, who are 6-1-1 in their last eight games.

The Gold Kings are in the midst of their worst winless skid (0-6-1) since the 1998-99 season and have sunk to 35-25-7 overall. Colorado will try to salvage its road trip tomorrow night at Fresno's Selland Arena at 8:05 p.m. MST. The Gold Kings are 2-3 against the Falcons this year, but the two teams have not met since early December. Jack Michaels calls the play-by-play for Colorado's games, all of which are broadcast live on KKCS-AM Hot Talk 1460.
