[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-A tough weekend ended with the Scorpions suffering their first shutout of the season. Colorado backstop Sebastien Laplante led the Eagles to a 6-0 victory Sunday afternoon.
Colorado came out of the gates quickly. Seth Leonard picked up a rebound and shot it into the net 2:47 into the first period. With the Eagles on a power play, Riley Nelson launched a slap shot past the glove of Andrew Martin, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles lead grew in the second period. Nelson scored his second power play goal on the afternoon at the 12:19 mark. New Mexico turned it over inside their own zone four minutes later, and Steve Haddon made them pay with his 10th goal of the season.
Consistency continued in the third period with Colorado tacking on two more goals. Leonard scored his second goal of the game 7:32 into the final frame. Former Scorpion Aaron Schneekloth finished the afternoon's scoring with a snap shot at the 13:40 mark.
