(Dublin, CA. June 8, 2008) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that the Colorado Rockies have acquired the contract of C David Parrish from the Long Beach Armada. Parrish returns to the organization that he was released from in spring training and will report immediately to the Tulsa Drillers, Colorado's Double-A farm club in the Texas League.
Parrish, 28, was a Big Ten Conference All Star catcher out of the University of Michigan, where he hit .356 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI in 50 games during his senior year. After being selected in the first round by the Yankees, Parrish played in the New York organization from 2000-2006. In 2006, Parrish was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and played two years in their minor league system at AA and AAA before being signed in this off-season and going to spring training with the Colorado Rockies. Releasing him at the end of spring training, the Rockies kept their eye on him and his hot start with the Armada caught their attention to bring him back as soon as they had an opening. In his ten games in the GBL this year for Long Beach, Parrish hit .344 going 11-32 with three home runs, two doubles, seven walks and 13 RBIs.
Parrish is the ninth GBL player in 2008 to be acquired by a major league organization following the 17 players sold in 2007. He is the third GBLer to go to the Colorado Rockies in the last six months.
