San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wednesday, February 18, 2015) - The San Antonio Scorpions have brought in another Colombian international after agreeing to terms with Atlético Nacional on a season-long loan, President/General Manager Howard Cornfield and Head Coach Alen Marcina announced today.

"Cristian is a significant signing for the San Antonio Scorpions and the NASL as he is an incredibly talented, young player with tremendous potential," said Marcina. "He displays the stylistic attributes we look for in a player and his signing speaks to our ambitions for the 2015 season. Palomeque has already built an impressive resume at only 20-years-old and he comes to us from one of the most storied clubs in Colombia - Atlético Nacional. He has experience playing in the Colombian top flight, won the Categoría Primera B championship in 2012, started every game at the 2013 U-20 World Cup in Turkey with the Colombian National Team, and we are very excited to welcome him to our squad."

The 5'7" winger scored 11 goals in 45 appearances while on loan with Colombian second division side Alianza Petrolera in 2012-13. The native of Carepa, Colombia, has also made almost 20 appearances for Colombia internationally at the U-17 (5), U-20 (12) and U-21 (2) levels, scoring two goals in the process. In 2013, he was part of the Colombian team that won the under-20 South American championship in Argentina.

"This is exactly the kind of player we are focused on as an organization; young, fast, skilled, and with a very high ceiling," said Cornfield. "I suspect Palomeque will quickly become a fan favorite with his play on the pitch and I, for one, can't wait to watch him."

Palomeque has played professionally for the Atlético Nacional (Categoría Primera A - Colombia) and Alianza Petrolera (Categoría Primera B - Colombia).

With the move, the Scorpions now have thirteen players on the roster for 2015:

GK - Sattler

D - DeRoux, James, Zea

M - Menjivar, Castillo, Forbes, Soto, Cruz

F - Elizondo, Hassli, Zahorski, Palomeque

The Scorpions play Major League Soccer's FC Dallas in the deeproot Funds Cup on February 28th at Toyota Field. San Antonio will begin defense of their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off on April 4 at Toyota Field against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
