Cokinos out as Coach

September 17, 2014 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Alabama Hammers News Release

The Alabama Hammers have announced Dean Cokinos is no longer head coach and director of player personnel and football operations for the team, effective immediately. Cokinos was with the Hammers for two seasons and posted a 15-10 record. Under his leadership, the Hammers won the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) Championship in 2013 with an 11-2 record with Cokinos named PIFL Coach of the Year. In 2014, the Hammers fell to 4-8 and failed to make the playoffs.

"We were looking for a change in direction of our team after last season," said team owner Jeff Knight. "By mutual agreement, Dean will no longer hold both positions with the Hammers. We thank Dean and really appreciate his hard work and dedication to help bring a PIFL Championship to Huntsville. We wish him the best."

Cokinos is reported to have had a personal issue arise recently and was one of the reasons for his decision to depart with the Hammers.

The Alabama Hammers are expected to name a new head coach next week.
