Johnstown Tomahawks News Release
JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Tomahawks announced Thursday the commitment of defenseman Niko Coffman to Bowling Green State University, a Division I hockey program.
Located in Bowling Green, Ohio, the Falcons compete in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
"This is a great accomplishment for Niko and his family," Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. "He was an outstanding member of our
team both on and off the ice. He should have no problem being a great fit at their university because of his high end character, very strong academics, and his skills as a hockey player."
Coffman spent his final junior hockey season with the Tomahawks, earning six goals and 17 assists for 23 points. All three totals were career highs for the defenseman from Chelsea, Michigan.
Prior to 2015-16, Coffman was a member of the Port Huron Fighting Falcons/Keystone Ice Miners franchise, amassing 22 points in two seasons.
"He received interest from numerous programs throughout the season and Bowling Green was a fit for him," Letizia said. "I am excited for him and the other Tomahawks' freshmen he will be entering school with this year."
Coffman becomes the fifth Tomahawks alum to suit up for the Falcons. Former Tomahawks forwards Shane Bednard, Casey Linkenheld and Matt Meier along with goalie Ryan Bednard have committed to playing Division I college hockey at BGSU.
