Coeur D'Alene native among teammate pairs drafted by D-backs

Yakima Bears News Release

The MLB First-Year Player's Draft concluded Wednesday and the Arizona Diamondbacks selected 20 players in addition to the 32 taken on draft's first two days.

Three college programs had talent the D-backs were particularly interested in, as Arizona picked a pair of players from UCLA, Central Florida and Hawaii. Joining 16th round pick and Vancouver, Washington native Michael Blake as players drafted by the Diamondbacks was right-handed pitcher, and Coeur D'Alene native, Alex Capaul, who was selected in the 43rd round.

Another player of note was picked in the 42nd round by Arizona: third baseman Tyler Bream out of Liberty University. Bream's father, Sid, played for Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Houston during an 11-year Major League career.

Among the 52 players selected by the Diamondbacks 28 were pitchers (eight lefties), four were catchers, 13 were infielders (two first basemen, two second basemen, five shortstops, and four third basemen), and seven outfielders. The D-backs took 13 high school seniors, 37 players from colleges in the United States, one from a college in Puerto Rico, and one player who finished high school in 2010, but did not attend a college this past winter.

Many of the players drafted will be reporting to Yakima June 15 for a summer with the Bears. The club looks to have its roster set by June 14.

The Yakima Bears begin the season June 17 in Vancouver, BC and will play at home for the first time on June 22. Season tickets and mini plans are on sale now at the downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
