Cobras Host Food Drive For Area Underprivileged

CHARLOTTE –The Carolina Cobras and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina have partnered to hold a food drive this Saturday, March 13 in support of the underprivileged of the Charlotte area.

All fans that donate a canned good, or other nonperishable food item, at the Cobras home contest with the Dallas Desperados will receive a discount ticket voucher for the team's next home game on Sunday, March 21. Canned food donations will be used to provide food to the children of homeless and low-income families, disabled persons, elderly and other people with limited resources.

"Sometimes people think that people are only hungry during the holidays. The fact is people are hungry year round and often have to make desperate choices between food and heat when it's cold outside." said Kim Riggins, Director of Development and PR of Second Harvest Food Bank. "All do nations of food and money are needed and appreciated. We are grateful to the Carolina Cobras for partnering with us to end hunger in our region."

As part of the America's Second Harvest national network, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina serves 16 counties in North and South Carolina. In 2003, the Food Bank distributed 7.9 million pounds of food and essential grocery items to nearly 550 non-profit agencies and churches serving the needy, as well as food banks in other areas. Combined, Food Bank partner agencies provided food assistance to more than 1.1 million people in 2003.
